Ever wondered why guitarists have long fingernails on one hand? It’s not because they’re growing them out to be a good backscratcher, haha. Although, that is a good idea. The strings on the guitar are so much harder to pluck with the pads of the fingers for fingerstyle guitar. So, it’s easier to reach the six strings of a guitar with longer rounded pointed fingernails like a guitar pick to pluck with ease.
However, the pads of the fingers on the left hand make it so much easier to press down on the frets to make a clear sound when forming chords.
So, the next time you see a guitarists with one hand of long fingernails. It’s because they like to pick their teeth— I mean the guitar strings. :)
