Hey you,
It’s me again with more photography fun.
When I first started photography, I was just using my phone to take pictures. I took art class all throughout high school and my art teacher taught us the importance of lines, composition, and color— among other details. So I took those lessons with me as I snapped pictures here and there around town and realized: “Hey, my pictures would look so much better with a nice quality camera.”
So I prayed and asked God for a DSLR camera. I had no money at the time and no job. But one day, the opportunity fell in my lap and I was blessed with some cash to buy myself a new camera. I found the Nikon D5600, reviewed all across the internet as one of the best beginner to intermediate cameras out there. I quickly signed up for classes on Skillshare (this is not sponsered— I just bought the subscription because I heard it was so good) to learn how to use the camera in Manual— you could use the other settings like automatic, aperature priority, or shutter priority but you won’t get the same beautiful effects that you want to get without Manual.
So the summer of 2020, I began to take lots of pictures. This is my first picture. Not anything impressive but the first thing I pointed my camera at after Skillshare to see what my camera was like.
It was just a small building in a park in Ocala. Almost no one was there to see me fiddle with the swivel viewfinder and try to adjust the settings to get the right exposure. Anyway, it was my first photo ever and I’m so proud of it.
Over the summer of 2021, dad became so supportive of my storytelling that he would take me out on town to take pictures in different places. We’d go to feed the homeless, visit the flea market, go to the famer’s market and stroll through the Paddock mall. Those are other photos that I can show in different series or you can go ahead and see them all on my Instagram account @rsadsrnc.phto.
However, today was one boring day in Florida, the weather was 89 degrees F but the heat index felt like 101 degrees. I didn’t feel like going outside, but poor dad was bored out of his mind that I suggested we go out and do something in the AC. We went out for a drive and I snapped a few pictures while we were out before the rain caught us.
I’m kind of disappointed that the sky was grey because it made the exposures so sad; however, I did my best with the edits, and here is what I came up with. I obviously still have a lot to learn as I’m going to take classes this coming semester to improve my editing. This is only with what I know from Skillshare but it’s a start.
What do you think?
I’m definitely proud of myself for how far I’ve come along. There is room for improvement but I’m happy. You can see these and more on my Instagram account @rsadsrnc.phto
