As we turned the corner, one of the first things we saw was a bedazzled limousine on the corner of the giant gold-like statue of David down the street from the world's largest baseball bat in Louisville, Kentucky. We took out our cameras to document the humongous landmarks before we made our way to catch our bus to Lexington, Kentucky where we would stay for the next three days.

Tired and hungry we waited at the bus station for our next bus in a sketchy neighborhood. As the sun began to roll behind the horizon the station began to fill and more and more people from all walks of life gathered inside the station. My friend felt uneasy as night approached but finally, our bus had arrived to take us two towns over to our destination.

The night was breezy and cold as we packed our backpacks on our backs and trudged down the street with our belongings in hand as we descended the bus. We waited for our Uber driver on the corner of Burger King to take us to our Air Bnb and would arrive to a heated one-bedroom apartment in a matter of minutes.

We arrived tired and hungry as my friend punched in the code to our Air Bnb and we pushed our belongings into the blue and white space that would be our home for the next three days with us. We kicked off our shoes and unpacked our belongings after a warm shower to sit down and order food from Uber eats. Unfortunately, restaurants were closed as 11 pm was approaching and sleep was commanding our attention after a long day of travel. We ended up eating a small assortment of Vienna Sausages and trail mix that we brought with us for snacks on our travels and ended our first day in Kentucky.

The next three days were full of exploration as we packed ourselves in winter clothes that were meant to keep us warm in Alaska. We got up early to walk downtown from our Air Bnb to see the city and travel as locals would. It was pretty fortunate that we saw a skating rink right downtown so my friend could skate. I was invited to lace up some skates too but my ankle was still bruised from a recent trip down some stairs and I had my camera on hand. I didn't want to risk another injury.

After my friend's skate session, I was inspired by the coffee tables that lined the walkway on the street to take portraits of my friend for my portfolio. It would be the perfect time to gift her some headshots and take some pictures that best showed off her personality as a young lawyer. I'm very happy with how they came out.

One of the best places we visited while our time in Lexington was a restaurant called the Southern: Deli and Tavern. They serve the best mouth-watering hamburgers with a side of condimented fries and a refreshing fruit drink. The mushrooms and cheese pull that oozed from the beefy burger looked as appetizing as it tasted and the first bite felt as if I had died and gone to heaven. I'm not exaggerating, it really was that good.

After lunch, we took some time before we started to explore the town again. During our walks, we also entered a few museums and explored the art and culture of Lexington. You will surely walk past the blue penguins of the town's art museum letting you know you stepped into a unique atmosphere of fine art that you probably haven't seen elsewhere. Between all the museums we could have seen on foot, we walked and walked so much that our feet grew sore but it was not without consequence because we were having so much fun making memories on our trip.

On our way back to Louisville, we saw lots of great things in town. We visited a thrift store where my friend got a lovely blouse for her mom. We ate Venezuelan Arepas from an authentic Venezuelan restaurant where I ordered the delicious Reina Pepiada and we walked on Louisville's 4th Street as the sun was setting to get great pictures of the lights on New Year's Eve.

I won't fail to mention that we also walked the bridge from Louisville Kentucky into Jeffersonville, Indiana. It was a surprise I wasn't expecting to take that day as the bridge is a good 15-minute walk between each state. We mostly walked the bridge to be at two places at once. A sensation I recommend to anyone who loves to travel. Once you step into Jeffersonville it is as if you step into the set of a movie scene. The town is so pretty and pristine. The buildings are so organized and the streets are so clean. It looks as if you stepped into a Hallmark movie. However, it looks like a small town where everyone knows everyone and nothing goes unnoticed. I would avoid that at all costs.

All in all, our recent girl's trip to Kentucky was memorable. We got to see each other after years of being away because our career paths took us in different directions. However, we celebrated 20 years of friendship this past new year and I'm glad for the memories.
